About the race
Lost in the Woods 5k is a holiday-themed event on December 19, 2026 in Newport News, VA at 600 Harpersville Road. The course uses two loops that wind through the Peninsula Catholic High School campus and the woods behind it, with sections decorated in Christmas lights.
The event program includes the following distances:
- 5 km 5k race
- 500 m Kids Fun Run
- 1 mile A Walk through the Lights
Registration fees listed for the event are $20 for the 5k, $10 for the Kids Fun Run, and $20 for the walk. All registration profits after costs will be donated to charity. Half of the race registration profits will go to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital; the other half will be awarded to a charity chosen by the team that wins the event's team competition. Teams may be composed of five to seven runners for the charity competition. Individual entrants may also participate.
The event is hosted by PCYT, a club that aims to teach teenagers community service and acts of kindness. Examples of the club's past activities include helping the police clean up a beach, packing lunches to feed people experiencing homelessness, and donating a car to refugees.
