About the race
Weekend at Burney Run/Walk/Crawl is held at 22800 Guest Ranch Rd, Cassel, CA, inside Lassen National Forest. The event uses an approximate 4.6 mile loop through forested terrain so all distances and timed events share the same course.
The loop combines flowy single-track trail and forest road with rolling hills and wooded sections. Runners pass Baum Lake each lap and can experience a visible night sky on evening loops. Each circuit includes about 370 ft of elevation gain and loss. A central aid station at the start and finish offers runner snacks, soda, water, electrolytes, hot made-to-order food, and a broth bar.
Event formats include:
- 48 hour timed challenge
- 24 hour timed challenge
- 12 hour timed event
- 4.6 mile loop option
- 13.8 mile option and burro race choices
Logistics note that pacers are allowed after 12 hours or after 50 miles and that crew access is restricted to the main staging area only. Space is provided for tents or crew areas for 48 hour, 24 hour, and 12 hour participants. Registered runners who meet the swag deadline receive event items; solo runners who reach 100 miles receive a belt buckle. Awards include recognition for the most miles, medals for finishers, and a cash prize funded by a portion of registrations.
The burro race requires participants to bring their own donkey, treat the animal humanely, and equip it with a pack saddle carrying a shovel, pick, and pan for an official finish. Rope length is limited to 15 feet and burros may not carry a person. Forever Home Donkey Rescue is listed as a sponsor for the burro race.
