Burney Basin Days in Burney, CA includes trail running and a burro race on a route that uses part of the Historic Great Shasta Rail Trail and a scenic forest road through the Burney Basin. The burro race requires each competitor to provide their own donkey and to use a pack saddle equipped with a shovel, pick, and pan, all safely attached. Other burro rules include a maximum rope length of 15 feet, a prohibition on striking or dragging burros, and a restriction that burros may not carry their racer. Organizers note that jacks must be controlled around other burros. Water stations will be available during the event.
