Great Shasta Rail Trail
The Great Shasta Rail Trail run takes place near McCloud, California, starting at the Great Shasta Rail Trail trail head in Bartle on Harris Springs Road (coordinates 41.25729, -121.82128). The event offers the following distances:
- 50K
- 30K
- 10K
The course is described as relatively flat with good footing and is run as out and back routes. Runners will pass areas with views of Mt Shasta and can expect crisp mountain air and scenic surroundings. This is the fourth running of the event. All distances have a 12-hour cutoff.
Event logistics note that packet pick-up is available on race morning for all distances. Parking is available in the trailhead lot or on nearby forest roads; participants are asked not to block traffic or the rail trail. Porta potties will be provided at the start/finish area and at the 50K turnaround.
Aid stations are placed roughly every 3 to 6 miles, with water drops on hotter years. Stations will be stocked with HEED electrolytes, common runner snacks, and ice. The 10K has an aid station at its turnaround; the 30K has aid stations at both the 10K and 30K turnarounds; the 50K has three aid stations. All entrants receive a shirt and an after-race meal, and all finishers receive a finisher medal. The swag deadline is June 23. The burro race option has been removed for this year.
The event benefits the Great Shasta Rail Trail with the intent of preserving the route and its history.
