We Love Teachers 5K - DC/Maryland
The We Love Teachers 5K in DC/Maryland is a community 5 kilometer running race held on October 10, 2026 at Wheaton Regional Park, 2000 Shorefield Road, Wheaton, MD 20902. The event is part of a national series tied to the National Day to Move for Education and one of ten in-person races running the same day alongside thousands of virtual participants.
The event offers a chip timed race experience. All 5K participants receive an official We Love Teachers Worldwide shirt, a finisher medal, and an official race bib. Results are available on local and national leaderboards in real time, and participants may appear on national rankings. Each participant can dedicate their run to a specific teacher; that teacher receives a personal digital certificate of appreciation when a dedication is added during registration before October 10.
There is a school challenge component where school teams compete on a National School Spirit Leaderboard and virtual participants who join a school team count toward that school’s total. Award categories include overall male and female, age group awards for top three finishers in multiple age brackets, and special awards such as Most School Spirit, Fastest Teacher male and female, Team Champion, and Legacy Award for best parent-child duo.
