About the race
The Waynesville Sunrise Rotary Turkey Trot is the sixth running of a community 5K held at Lake Junaluska Conference & Retreat Center in Waynesville, North Carolina on November 26. The event follows a clockwise loop around Lake Junaluska with the start and finish at Weldon Gymnasium and includes one water station along the course.
Online registration opens on July 8 and closes on November 23 or earlier if the event sells out. Race capacity has been increased to 800 participants. Entry fees are listed by date and age category: adults $30 (July 8–October 31) and $35 (November 1 through race day); youth 12 and under $15 (July 14–October 31) and $20 (November 1 through race day). The registration platform may add service charges and taxes.
Packet pickup and late registration are scheduled at Bosus Wine Shop on November 25 and at Weldon Outdoor Gymnasium on November 26. Runners who register by 1:00 PM EDT on November 3 are guaranteed a shirt in their size; after that date shirts are based on availability. Indoor restrooms are adjacent to Weldon Gymnasium when available, with supplemental portable toilets.
Children in strollers are permitted and need not be registered; stroller pushers and runners with dogs on leashes are asked to start at the back of the field. The event is rain or shine and has a no refund policy; registration transfers are allowed for a $2 processing fee if completed by November 23 at 7:00 PM EST.
Awards are given to the top three overall male and female, top Masters (40 & over) male and female, and first through third in multiple age groups. Race bibs contain timing chips and should be worn on the front and kept flat. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
