About the race
The Waynesville Sunrise Rotary Turkey Trot is a Thanksgiving Day 5K held at Lake Junaluska Conference & Retreat Center in Lake Junaluska, North Carolina on November 26. The event is presented as the sixth running of the local Turkey Trot and is limited in size with a field capacity of 800 participants.
The course starts and finishes at Weldon Gym and follows a clockwise loop around Lake Junaluska. There is one water station on course and electronic timing is provided via a timing chip on each race bib; runners are asked to wear their bib on the front and not to crinkle it.
Registration opens on July 8 and closes on November 23 or earlier if the event sells out. Entry fees are listed by age and date range: adults pay $30 for registrations July 8 through October 31 and $35 for registrations from November 1; youth 12 and under pay $15 for the earlier window and $20 for the later window. Online registration fees do not include platform service charges or taxes.
Packet pickup is available the day before at Bosu Wine Shop and on race day at Weldon Outdoor Gymnasium. Shirts are guaranteed for runners who register on or before November 3, subject to size availability afterward. The event is rain or shine and has a no refund policy; transfers are allowed for a processing fee if completed by the posted transfer deadline.
Children in strollers are permitted without a separate entry for the child and both strollers and dogs must start near the back of the field. After the finish there are drinks and snacks available prior to the awards presentation. Awards include top three overall male and female, top Masters 40 and over male and female, and first through third in multiple age groups.
