Waynesville Sunrise Rotary Turkey Trot
The Waynesville Sunrise Rotary Turkey Trot is a Thanksgiving morning 5K held at Lake Junaluska Conference & Retreat Center in Lake Junaluska, NC. The course starts and finishes at Weldon Gym and follows a clockwise loop around Lake Junaluska. There is one water station on course.
Race capacity is 800 participants. Entry fee details are listed as coming soon. Packet pickup is available at Bosus Wine Shop (138 Miller Street, Waynesville) and at Weldon Outdoor Gymnasium at Lake Junaluska.
Logistics note that indoor restrooms are adjacent to Weldon Gymnasium with supplemental portable toilets. Children in strollers are permitted; the child riding in the stroller does not need to be registered and stroller pushers are asked to start at the back of the field. Well behaved, vaccinated dogs on leashes are welcome and should start at the back of the pack. Principal parking areas include the Bethea Welcome Center, Center for Evangelism, York Dining Commons and near the pool on Melody Lane.
Timing is handled with a bib timing chip that records time on the timing mats; runners are asked to wear the bib on the front and not to crinkle it. Awards include prizes for the top three overall male and female, top Masters 40 and over male and female, and age group awards for standard age divisions. Transfers are allowed with a $2 processing fee and must be completed by the organizer's stated deadline. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
