AdventHealth July 4th Watermelon 5K
The AdventHealth July 4th Watermelon 5K is an Independence Day community event held in Winter Park, Florida. The event features a USATF-certified course that begins on Park Avenue and winds through the local streets. Participants can choose between an in-person race or a virtual option that can be completed remotely.
The available distances for this event include:
- 5K (3.1 miles)
- Free Kids' Run
The race is organized as a non-scored fun-run for participants of all ages, though identifying awards are presented to the top 10 male and female finishers. Participants can view their own times on the overhead clock at the finish line. The event emphasizes military appreciation, offering specific discounts and a dedicated bib for military personnel.
On-site activities include a watermelon eating contest and yard games hosted at the event tents. After finishing the course, participants are provided with ice-cold watermelon. Those registered for the 5K receive a gender-specific tank top and a finisher towel. A food drive is also held during the event to collect non-perishable items for the Orlando VA Medical Center’s VSO Food Pantry.
The event proceeds benefit the Track Shack Youth Foundation, which supports physical fitness programs for children and teens. Safety regulations prohibit the use of baby carriers, skates, bicycles, and pets on the course. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
