8th Annual WaterMel Run Walk 5K
The event is the eighth annual WaterMel Run Walk 5K held in Lewes, Delaware at American Legion Post 17, 113 American Legion Road. It takes place on August 2, 2026 and supports the MAR-DEL Watermelon Association. Day of race registration is available.
Two registration categories are listed: a general 5K run/walk and a Competitive Walking 5K. Competitive walkers must walk the entire race; running or jogging in that category is not permitted. Published registration fees include an early tier of $33.70 and a later tier of $39.03. Additional post race party tickets are listed at $12.40. Bibs are non-transferable and registrations are non refundable.
Amenities include guaranteed tee shirts for all pre registered participants, watermelon slices at the finish, a watermelon eating contest, alcoholic watermelon drinks for those 21 and over, and food and beer for those 21 and over. Dogs are not allowed due to insurance liability.
Timing is provided by R2R Timing using the MYLAPS BibTag chip system. Top finisher awards for overall male and female and masters are scored by gun time; other age group awards are scored by chip time. Awards also include age group placings, top walkers, and a prize for the largest team. Results and event photos will be posted online after the race.
