Event overview
The 21st Race into the New Year includes a 5k road race and a 1/4 mile kids fun dash. The 5k is an out-and-back course that begins at the bandstand on Rehoboth Avenue boardwalk and runs north to the turn-around at Gordon's Pond, Cape Henlopen State Park. The kids run is free for ages 9 and under, requires no registration, and does not include a T-shirt.
Logistics, timing and policies
The event is hosted by the Seashore Striders and benefits local Cape Region charities. The 5k will be chip timed using the ChronoTrack system. Long-sleeve cotton race shirts are guaranteed to pre-registered participants by 12/23/25 while supplies last. Awards will be given to overall male and female, master male and female, and the top three finishers in five-year age groups from 9 & under to 80 & over. Parking will be on Rehoboth Avenue; meters are not in effect.
Registration fees listed in the event material are:
- Early registration: $25 through December 1
- Pre-registration: $30 through December 30
- Late/onsite: $35 on race day
The organizer has a no-refund policy but offers options such as transferring the entry to another Seashore Strider event of equal value within the year, donating the fee to the event charity or youth program, or deferring to the following year. Course rules note that participants must follow marked routes, avoid sidewalks and private property, bicycles and unregistered "bandit" runners are not allowed, and wearing headphones in both ears is discouraged.
