Walk for Wildlife : St. Vital Park, Winnipeg
The event supports Prairie Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre, a non-profit that treats injured and orphaned wildlife and aims to return them to their natural habitat. Proceeds go directly to patient care, including medication, veterinary visits, food, supplies and enclosure maintenance.
The event offers walk and run formats, available for individuals or teams:
- 5 km walk (individual or team)
- 5 km run (individual or team)
- 10 km run (individual or team)
Participants are encouraged to collect pledges and donations. General registration includes a t-shirt, a button and a bib. Child registration (12 and under) must include a parent or guardian; options are a paid entry with t-shirt or a free entry without t-shirt. Registrations are non-refundable.
The event takes place at St. Vital Park, River Road, Winnipeg, with a race day meet up at the Aspen Shelter Site. Early bib pick up is scheduled for September 10 at Assiniboine Park near the Park Cafe. Refreshments, a pancake breakfast and a meet and greet with Wildlife Ambassadors follow the activity. Prizes are given to individuals who raise over CA$50, CA$100 or CA$400. The event has several sponsors, including Shindico, Payworks, Manitoba Blue Cross and Pembina Veterinary Hospital.
