Wainuiomata Hill Run : second annual event on September 12 2026
The Wainuiomata Hill Run offers running and walking options over two measured courses that start in central Wainuiomata and use Hugh Sinclair Park as the start and finish area. Entrants can choose 6.5 km or 10 km distances either as a run or a walk. A Kids Kilometre Dash and a Buggy Walk category for under 5s are included, and younger runners may participate with a parent or caregiver.
The route is mostly on pavement or road with short grass sections in the park. Organisers will manage traffic with a mixture of road closures and controlled crossings and will use marshalls to direct participants. Dogs are not permitted in the race except for service animals.
Entry fees cover event management, supplies, timing equipment, traffic and safety management, and a charity donation to Kokiri Marae Pātaka Kai, which distributes food to whanau in Wainuiomata, Lower Hutt, Naenae and Taita. Prize placings will be awarded first to third in male, female and athlete with disability categories for both distances and both run and walk events. Early bird pricing applies before July 13.
Team entry packages are available with bundled race entries and options for additional entries at a reduced rate. The organiser’s terms state participants enter at their own risk and that refunds are limited except for medical reasons with a certificate.
