Volksläufe - The People’s Race
Volksläufe is a long-standing running tradition held in Frankenmuth, Michigan. Hosted by the Frankenmuth Jaycees, the 51st edition of this event coincides with the 250th anniversary of the United States. The courses lead participants through the Bavarian-themed streets of the city, into the countryside, and along the Cass River. All events start and finish at Heritage Park.
The event offers several distances and participation formats:
- Half Marathon: A 13.1-mile run with a course cutoff time of 3.5 hours, requiring a minimum pace of 16 minutes per mile.
- 10K Run: A 10 km road race held on the morning of July 4th.
- 5K Run and Walk: A 5 km course available for both runners and walkers.
- Zweiläufe Challenge: A combined event where participants complete both the 10K and the 5K races on the same day.
- 2K Family Fun Run: A shorter distance intended for younger runners or those new to racing.
Participants can choose between standard registration or an "Economy" tier. The economy option provides a lower entry fee for race participation only and does not include a commemorative shirt or finisher medal. Registration for all events opens in February and closes the day before the race.
The event serves as a fundraiser for local charitable initiatives and the annual fireworks display. In addition to the races on July 4th, the site hosts live entertainment, food vendors, and a community marketplace on the preceding evening.
