Event overview
Vol-State is a long-distance road race that follows a route from Missouri to Northeast Georgia, finishing at "the Rock" on Sand Mountain. The advertised course covers 314 miles and begins with a ferry crossing of the Mississippi River from Missouri to Kentucky. The route proceeds along highways and backroads through Tennessee and ends atop Sand Mountain in Georgia. The event takes place in July and the organizer notes heat and humidity in Tennessee during that month. There are no race-provided aid stations; entrants are expected to be self-reliant for food, water, sleep, and basic needs while on the course.
Logistics and policies
Two registration options are offered: a lower-cost option without bus or hotel, and a higher-cost option that includes a parking spot at the finish from the day before until the entrant finishes or the race ends, a bus ride with lunch to Union City, a double-occupancy hotel bed in Union City the night before, and bus transport from Union City to the ferry on race morning. Organizers state that crew vehicles will not be allowed. Entrants must report their location by phone or text twice daily at 07:30 and 19:30; failure to check in will prompt a search. Dropouts may request a ride to the car park and will be transported at the earliest feasible time. Refunds are available on a declining scale by date; a wait list will be maintained and initial entrants selected late summer 2024. Registration closes July 7.
