Vol State - July 9 - 19, 2026
The Vol-State is a point-to-point, self-reliant road race covering 314 miles from a ferry crossing of the Mississippi River (Missouri to Kentucky) to "the Rock" atop Sand Mountain in northeast Georgia. The route follows highways and backroads through Tennessee and adjacent areas, including hills, rivers, mountains, and long valleys. July heat and humidity are noted as part of the course conditions.
There are no aid stations and no official pacers; entrants must manage food, water, sleep, navigation, and other basic needs on their own. Crew vehicles are not allowed. Entrants must report their location by phone twice daily; texting is accepted and failure to check in will prompt a search.
Two registration options are offered: a lower-cost option without pre-race bus or hotel, and a higher-cost option that includes a guaranteed bus seat along part of the course with lunch, a double-occupancy hotel bed the night before the race, transport from the hotel to the ferry on race morning, and a finish-line parking spot held from the day before the race until the entrant finishes or their race ends.
A wait list will be maintained for entry selection. Refunds are available on a declining scale, with higher refunds earlier in the year and reduced refunds closer to the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
