Virginia ANVIL Ultra Triathlon : Lake Anna State Park, Spotsylvania, Virginia
The event runs October 8-10 at Lake Anna State Park and features multi-loop swim, bike, and run courses held inside the park. Courses are well marked and manned by volunteers. The loop format is used to keep athletes within a controlled area and to improve access to medical support and crew involvement from the race village.
Race categories and distances:
- Single Anvil Triathlon: 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, 26.2 mile run.
- 1.5x Anvil Triathlon: 3.6 mile swim, 168 mile bike, 39.3 mile run.
- Double Anvil Triathlon: 4.8 mile swim, 224 mile bike, 52.4 mile run.
Swim details: the swim uses a 2,112-foot (644 m) clockwise out-and-back loop around a 1,056-foot (322 m) swim line. Water depths in the swim area are generally 10 to 12 feet or less and typical temperatures average 65 to 70 degrees; wetsuits are recommended. Athletes must wear the provided colored swim cap; timers on shore count laps. Aid floats are available at the main buoy for self-service.
Bike and run details: the bike is a 5.0769 mile (8.169 km) loop; the run is a 1.00769 mile (1.621719 km) asphalt loop. Night lighting and front and rear lights are required when dark. Drafting and headphones are prohibited. Registration is online only; Double entrants must submit a doctor-signed medical release via email one month prior.
