Event Overview
The Vets Day 5K & 10K takes place at the War Memorial in Milwaukee. This event is part of the Wisconsin Chilly Willy Winter Run Series and honors veterans and active-duty service members. The course transitions through Veterans Park, with the start and finish lines located on Mason Street.
Participants can choose from several event categories:
- 10 km Run (two laps)
- 5 km Run (approximately 3.37 miles)
- 5 km Walk
- 5 km Ruck (walking with a weighted backpack)
- 1 km Kiddo's Race
Course Details and Amenities
The route includes one aid station providing water, which participants pass multiple times depending on their chosen distance. The 10K course consists of two laps. All events are chip-timed, with the time starting when the participant crosses the start line.
After completing the race, a hot chocolate bar and an awards ceremony are available for participants. All runners receive a finisher woodle. Custom woodles are awarded to the top three male and female finishers in five-year age groups. The Average Joe & Jane awards are also presented to the male and female 5K runners who finish in the exact middle of the field.
Participation and Support
The event supports Operation Finally Home, an organization that builds mortgage-free homes for veterans. Participants are invited to join a pre-race activity of 22 pushups to honor Project 22. Veterans are encouraged to wear special wristbands provided at the packet pickup area to be recognized for their service. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
