Event Overview
The Veterans Memorial Day 5K is a point-to-point race that starts within a Memorial Day parade in Camillus. Participants begin by running a course cheered on by parade spectators. The route follows the same path as the 1996 Olympic Torch did on its way to Atlanta. The final kilometer runs along the historic Camillus Erie Canal Trail, finishing at the historic Sims Store. The course is a certified 5K (certification code NY-07039JG).
Race Details
The standard registration price is $25, with a discounted rate of $20 for participants under 18 years old who register before race day.
Parking is a consideration as the start and finish are not in the same location. The distance from the Village to the finish line is 1 mile. Suggested parking areas are along Newport Road, Van Alstine Road, and DeVoe Road, which allow for a short warm-up jog to the start line.
Registration and packet pick-up happen at the Camillus Senior Center on First Street. Registration is online only.
Awards & Participant Items
The top two male and female runners receive awards. Every finisher receives a commemorative American flag pin upon crossing the finish line, and a donut is available. All premium participant items are only available on race day.
Event Rules
For runner safety on the narrow Erie Canal Towpath, the event does not allow baby strollers, pets, or music devices (with or without headphones). Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
