Vero Beach Octopus Ultra
The Vero Beach Octopus Ultra is a multi-distance ultramarathon held at the Environmental Learning Center in Vero Beach, FL. The event uses a central base with eight out-and-back arms, called Octo-Arms, that runners complete in various combinations to reach different distances.
Distances offered include:
- 100 Miler
- 100K
- 50 Miler
- 50K
- Mini-Ultra (about 29.4 miles)
- Ultra Teaser (arm 1 only, about 16.86 miles)
- Tentacle "Heavy" 5K Dash
Finishing specific arm combinations produces standard ultra distances: completing A1 through A4 yields a 50 mile finish; adding A5 produces a 100K; completing all eight arms within the time limit earns the event buckle. The event gives all distances up to 32 hours to finish. Organizers reserve the right to remove participants from the course for health or safety reasons related to South Florida heat. Leaving the course for any reason is treated as a DNF.
Crew support is optional but recommended because some course sections have no water access. The event began in 2020 and donates a portion of proceeds to the Environmental Learning Center. The race base is on the grounds of the Environmental Learning Center at 255 Live Oak Dr., Vero Beach, FL. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
