About the race
The Vensterberg Sunrise Expedition is a guided hiking outing on Vensterberg near Sputnik on the Outeniqua Pass, George, Western Cape, South Africa. The listed route is an out-and-back hike of approximately 5 km with about 532 m of elevation gain. The organiser estimates the outing will take around five hours.
Near the summit there is a natural rock formation that creates a window with views toward parts of George. The route offers outdoor time, fresh air and social interaction among participants.
Organisers require a compulsory emergency kit for all hikes. Recommended and required personal kit includes a headlamp, a suitable lightweight hydration pack or backpack, 1–2 litres of water, sunscreen, a hat, shoes with proper grip, trail snacks or hiking food, a lightweight windproof jacket or fleece, a beanie and gloves depending on weather, and a waterproof jacket. Dressing in layers is advised. Optional items noted are fingerless gloves, hiking poles, buffs and coffee.
