Event overview

The aquathlon mixes open-water swimming and a short road run on the Vancouver waterfront. It is limited to 100 participants and accepts individual entries and 2-person teams. The format is swim, transition at Second Beach, then a run along the Seawall. Chip timing is listed as TBC; athletes are asked to wear their timing chip on the ankle for both swim and run.

Course, rules and safety

Distances:

  • Swim: 750 m in English Bay using marked buoys.
  • Run: 2.5 km Seawall out-and-back, flat and paved.
  • Format: Swim → transition at Second Beach → run.

The swim course is a marked triangle/rectangle with lifeguards, kayaks, and on-course support. The transition area is at or near Second Beach and is numbered or assigned. Recommended transition layout details include a small towel, shoes placed with heels facing the athlete, and a ready race belt; swim cap and goggles should be left in a small spot after the swim. Wetsuits are allowed and may be recommended depending on conditions. Standard triathlon swim aids (fins, paddles, propulsion devices) are not permitted. Shoes are required on the run and headphones are not allowed. Cut-offs are 30 minutes for the swim and 90 minutes for the total event. Medical staff and course marshals will be on site, and participants must follow marshal instructions and yield to pedestrians on the Seawall.
