About the race

The Vancouver Aquathlon is a swim→run event along Vancouver's waterfront. It combines a 750 m swim in English Bay, an exit and transition at Second Beach, and a 2.5 km Seawall out-and-back run. The event is limited to 100 participants and accepts individual entries and 2-person teams.

Distances

  • Swim: 750 m (English Bay)
  • Run: 2.5 km (Seawall out-and-back)

The swim course is marked with buoys in English Bay and has lifeguards, kayaks, and on-water support. Transition (T1) is at or near Second Beach. The run course is flat and paved with marshals and cones at the turnaround. Wetsuits are allowed and recommended depending on weather and water temperature. Timing is planned to be chip-timed; chips are worn on the ankle. Footwear is required on the run; swim aids such as fins or paddles are not permitted and headphones are not allowed on course. Cut-offs are 30 minutes for the swim and 90 minutes for the total event. Medical support is on site and participants must follow marshal instructions and yield to pedestrians on the Seawall.

Transition guidance notes that participants should use their assigned space, mark it with a towel, position shoes with heels facing them, consider elastic laces, keep a shirt covering the torso, and keep gear tidy for a quick change. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
