Valley Thaw Out Races - Palmer, AK
The Valley Thaw Out Races take place on April 24, 2027, at Pyrah's Pioneer Peak Farm, 4350 Bodenburg Loop, Palmer, Alaska. The event offers multiple road race distances and serves as a fundraiser for the MatSu Running Club, a local non-profit running organization.
Available distances include:
- Marathon 26.2 Miles
- Half Marathon 13.1 Miles
- 10K 6.2 Miles
- 5K 3.1 Miles
- Kids 1K Run
All races start and finish at Pyrah's Pioneer Peak Farm. Course descriptions provided by the organizer note the following: the 5K is an out-and-back on Bodenburg Loop; the 10K follows Bodenburg Loop, joins the Glenn Highway bike path and returns, and may be slightly longer than a strict 10K; the half marathon uses the bike path with a turnaround near Virginia Ave and returns via a second Bodenburg Loop Road; the marathon extends to Airport Road and the Outer Springer Loop before returning to the bike path. The kids run is a short loop around the farm.
Course restrictions include running on the road shoulder against traffic with volunteers assisting crossings. There will be no traffic closure for Bodenburg Loop Road. No strollers, dogs, bikes, wheelies, or footwear other than running shoes are allowed. The overall race cap is 350 participants across all divisions, excluding the kids run.
