Event details
AKtive's Backyard Ultra is a backyard ultra running event at Government Peak Recreation Area near Hatcher Pass in Palmer, Alaska. The course is a loop of 4.167 miles (6706 meters) on single-track and ski trails with about 500 feet of elevation gain and loss per loop. The race is capped at 75 participants. Shirt sizes are guaranteed until Saturday, June 7. Due to event costs, there are no refunds, deferrals, bib exchanges, or race transfers.
Format and course rules
The event follows standard Backyard Ultra rules. Each loop starts on the hour and must be completed within one hour to count. Day and night loops use the same route; headlamps are recommended between 11:00 PM and 4:00 AM. There is one small creek crossing with stepping stones. Trails will be clear and well marked, but thick vegetation can be present and wildlife may occur; runners are advised to consider a bear deterrent such as spray or a horn. No crewing or outside aid is allowed during a loop. Water and a limited supply of prepackaged food will be available at the start/finish. A winner is the last person to complete a loop; all other finishers are classified as DNF. Completing at least 24 loops qualifies a runner for the At-Large list for Big’s Backyard.
