Black Wolf Backyard Ultra, July 11, 2026
Black Wolf Backyard Ultra is a backyard-style endurance race held at Government Peak Recreation Area near Hatcher Pass in Palmer, AK. The course is a loop of 4.167 mile (6706 meter) run on single-track and ski trails with moderate elevation changes of about 500 feet per loop.
The event follows standard Backyard Ultra rules: each loop must start on the hour, each loop must be completed within an hour to count, no late starts, no external aid or crewing during a loop, and no artificial aids. Day and night loops use the same route; headlamps are recommended for overnight hours. Water and a limited supply of prepackaged food are available at the start/finish.
Trails will be clear and marked but vegetation can be thick beside the route. There is one small creek crossing with stepping stones and runners should expect the possibility of wet shoes or socks. Wildlife may be present and participants are advised to consider bear deterrents such as spray or a whistle.
Registration opens January 1, 2026 at 6:00 AM and the field is capped at 75 participants. Due to event costs, refunds, deferrals, bib exchanges, and transfers are not offered. Shirt sizes are guaranteed until June 7. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
