Black Wolf Backyard Ultra - Palmer, AK
Black Wolf Backyard Ultra takes place on July 11, 2026 at Government Peak Recreation Area near Hatcher Pass in Palmer, AK. The event uses a single loop of approximately 4.167 mile (6706 meter) that follows single track and ski trails with roughly 500 ft of elevation gain and loss per loop. Runners complete as many loops as they can; the final finisher is the last person to complete a loop.
The race follows standard Backyard Ultra rules. Each loop must be started on the hour and finished within the hour to count. There is no crewing or outside aid allowed during a loop and artificial aids such as trekking poles are not permitted. Water and a limited supply of prepackaged food items are available at the start/finish area. Race information and the full rule set are provided in the participant handbook after registration.
Course conditions may include clear, well marked trails, thick vegetation adjacent to the trail, one small creek crossing with stepping stones, and variable weather that can produce rain and mud. Headlamps are recommended for the darker hours. The field is capped at 75 participants. Registration opens January 1, 2026 at 6:00 AM and closes July 4 at 11:59 PM AK.
