Event overview
Black Wolf Backyard Ultra is a backyard ultra held at Government Peak Recreation Area near Hatcher Pass in Palmer, AK. The course is a 4.167 mile (6706 meter) loop over single track and ski trails with moderate elevation gains and losses of about 500 ft per loop. Day and night loops use the same route. The race follows standard Backyard Ultra format: runners complete repeated loops and the winner is the last person to complete a loop. The field is capped at 75 participants. The event is designated a bronze ticket race.
Course, rules and logistics
Trails will be clear and well marked, but thick vegetation borders parts of the route and wildlife may be present. There is one small creek crossing with stepping stones and runners should expect the possibility of wet shoes or socks. Weather can include rain and mud. Night running may require headlamps. Water and a limited supply of prepackaged food items will be available at the start/finish area. Organizers state there will be no refunds, deferrals, bib exchanges, or race transfers; shirt sizes are guaranteed only until the stated deadline. Race rules include no crewing or outside aid during a loop, no artificial aids (for example trekking poles), and each loop must be completed within the allowed time to count.
