Event Overview
The University of Delaware's Chicken Chase is a fundraising running and walking event on Saturday, June 13, 2026. It is the 5th annual edition of the event. Participants can choose from several event types:
- 5K Registration (run/walk)
- COMPETITIVE WALKING 5K (walking only)
- 1 Mile Walk
Location and Schedule
The event is held at The Starboard (2009 DE-1) in Dewey Beach, Delaware. Packet pickup and registration is available on Friday, June 12 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at The Starboard. Day-of-race registration is available on June 13 starting at 6:30 AM.
Course and Rules
The 5K course is described as a fast, flat out-and-back route. It starts on Salisbury Street, continues to the Rehoboth Boardwalk, and has a turnaround at New Castle Street. Dogs are not permitted due to insurance liability. Bib numbers are non-transferable.
Amenities and Awards
Participants receive a T-shirt. The first 300 participants receive a finisher medal. There is a post-race party at The Starboard featuring Michelob Ultra, seltzers, and wings. Free beer is available for participants aged 21 and older.
Awards are given in many categories. Top overall male/female and masters winners receive Starboard gift certificates. Awards are also given to top UD Alumni finishers, top three male/female in 10-year age groups from 13 & under through 70 & over, overall male/female walkers, the largest team, and the fastest 5-person team.
Registration and Proceeds
Registration fees vary by event type and date. A "Guest Pass" is available for non-participants who wish to attend the post-race party. All proceeds support the University of Delaware's 302 Tour, a community engagement program for student-athletes. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
