Event Overview
The University of Delaware's 5th Annual Chicken Chase 5K and 1 Mile event takes place in Dewey Beach, Delaware. The race follows a flat, out-and-back course that begins on Salisbury Street. Participants travel along King Charles to the Silver Lake Bridge and continue via Queen Street onto the Rehoboth Boardwalk, reaching a turnaround point at New Castle Street.
Available distances and categories include:
- 5K Run/Walk
- 5K Competitive Walking (strictly walking, no running or jogging permitted)
- 1 Mile Walk
Participant Information
All proceeds from the event benefit the Blue and Gold Fund, supporting the 302 Tour for student-athletes and coaches. Registration options are available for participants, and a guest pass is offered for non-participants who wish to attend the post-race activities. The event does not allow dogs due to insurance liability, and race bibs are non-transferable.
Amenities and Recognition
Participants receive t-shirts, and the first 300 finishers are awarded commemorative medals. An awards ceremony is held following the race at The Starboard, with recognition categories including:
- Overall male and female winners and masters.
- Top male and female University of Delaware Alumni.
- Top three finishers in 10-year age groups, from 13 and under to 70 and over.
- Overall male and female winners in the competitive walking category.
- Largest team and fastest team honors.
