2026 Ultraman World Championships 40th Edition
The 2026 Ultraman World Championships marks the 40th edition of this individual ultra-endurance event. Located on the Big Island of Hawaii, the competition spans three days and covers a total distance of 320 miles (515 kilometers). Participation is limited to 40 athletes and is conducted by invitation only. The event follows a three-stage format:
- Stage I: 6.2-mile (10 km) ocean swim and 90-mile (145 km) cross-country bike ride.
- Stage II: 171.4-mile (276 km) bike ride.
- Stage III: 52.4-mile (84 km) double-marathon run.
Stage I begins with a swim from Kailua Bay to Keauhou Bay, followed by a cycle to Volcanoes National Park with vertical climbs totaling 7,600 feet. Stage II continues from the national park through Hilo and along the Hamakua Coast, finishing in Kapa'au with 8,600 feet of vertical climbing. Stage III consists of a double-marathon run starting in Hawi and finishing at the Old Airport Park in Kailua-Kona.
Each stage has a strict 12-hour completion limit. Additionally, the swim portion of the first stage must be completed within 5.5 hours. Participants who do not reach the finish line of a stage within the 12-hour limit are disqualified. The event is held annually during the traditional Thanksgiving weekend.
