About the race
The UAB Veterans Day 5K presented by Viva Health is a community race at Railroad Park in Birmingham on November 14, 2026. The event honors those who served and supports military-connected students, and since 2023 has provided over $22,000 in emergency funding. Last year more than 1,100 participants and 100 volunteers took part.
Distances offered include:
- 5K - 3.11 Miles
- 1 Mile Fun Run - 1 Mile
Race options include multiple 5K categories (general, military and veteran, student and youth, virtual, and a free kids division) and a 1 mile untimed fun run. The 5K is chip timed and includes a race bib. All 5K participants receive a race shirt and finisher medal, with the exception of the free kids option. The event is stroller and wheelchair friendly.
A virtual 5K option allows participants to complete the distance remotely; virtual registrants receive their shirt and medal by mail within one week after the race or may choose in-person pickup. Awards will be given to the top three overall male and female finishers and to top male and female finishers in each age division.
Packet pickup is available at the UAB Hill Student Center, Suite 313, and on site on race day. Volunteer roles include setup, registration, course direction, finish line support, and breakdown. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
