Annual Tyler 'Smitty' Smith 5K : Race information
The Annual Tyler 'Smitty' Smith 5K is a memorial run and walk held in Rochelle to honor Tyler Smith, who passed in 2018. The event is organized to preserve his memory and to give back to the local community through fundraising.
All proceeds will go to the Tyler Smith Memorial Foundation. Funds are intended to support local high school scholarships and other local charities, including police and military organizations. The event is described as a "no frills" 5K; it will be timed but no awards will be given based on finish times.
The entry fee is $35 and includes the race and a T-shirt. Lunch is not included; Chow Haul Smokehouse will offer food for purchase with 10% of those proceeds designated for the foundation. A post-race gathering at the Rochelle VFW will feature raffles and a 50/50 drawing.
Logistics note: race activity will take place at Atwood Park, located across from Cooper Park. Race packets can be picked up at Cooper Park Shelter by Kids Ground. Sign ups are accepted through the day of the event, walk in sign ups are available at the Rochelle Park District Rec Center Office at 802 Jones Rd in Rochelle.
