Turkey Trek by Smartwool at Snowshoe
The Turkey Trek is a community Fun Run/Trek at Snowshoe sponsored by Smartwool and organized to support the Snowshoe Foundation Dave Dekema Toy Drive. The event includes a costume parade in the Village with judging for "gobble grandeur" before participants proceed to the course.
The course follows Snowshoe Parkway, the paved Greenway walking path, for most of the route. Trekkers travel north toward the Powder Ridge area to a turn-around where they must pick up a checkpoint TURKEY FEATHER, return past the start/finish area, then travel south through the center Village and up the ramp past Split Rock Pools to a second turn-around where a second TURKEY FEATHER must be collected. Both checkpoint feathers are required to finish.
At the finish line participants must complete the FEATHER THE TURKEY TAIL challenge and demonstrate a TURKEY STRUT in order to cross the finish line. Packet pickup is held in the Gauley Room of Allegheny Springs and includes racer number, course map, and race requirements. Awards and hot beverages are also hosted in the Gauley Room.
Organizers note that participants should be prepared for variable surfaces and weather, including dry pavement, gravel, wet surfaces, snow, and possible icy conditions, and should wear appropriate shoes or boots. Smartwool provides discounts and custom prizing for winners, and participants who bring a toy or make an online donation through RunReg receive a special souvenir.
