Turkey Toss 4 Miler Road Run
The event takes place at Hawthorne Park, 500 Ackerman Drive, Porter, Indiana on November 27, 2026. The course is a two mile out and back route, yielding a total distance of four miles, run on pavement and a bike trail. The route is marked with flags and arrow signs at major turns.
Packet pick-up, day-of registration, food service, and restrooms are located in the community center. Water, snacks, coffee, and Gatorade are provided after the race. All runners receive a turkey hat and a goodie bag that includes one raffle ticket; additional raffle tickets are available for purchase.
Timing uses an informal system: participants receive a popsicle stick with a number when they finish and must return that stick to staff at the community center as soon as possible. Organizers note cold weather and provide the community center as a place to warm up after the run.
The event includes a Turkey Bowling activity held inside the community center using a four pound frozen turkey. A limited number of raffle winners will be invited to bowl for prizes; bowlers have two shots and a strike or spare wins. Previously used race shirts and other items will be sold for five dollars, with proceeds designated for the Porter Parks Department. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
