Tupelo Sprint Triathlon
The Tupelo Sprint Triathlon is an adult multisport event held in Tupelo, Mississippi. The competition is based at the Tupelo Aquatic Center and utilizes a sprint distance format. Participants can enter as individual competitors or as part of a relay team.
The course consists of three distinct segments:
- 300 meter pool swim
- 11 mile road bike
- 5k run
The swim portion utilizes a time trial start, with athletes entering the water one at a time every 10 seconds. Participants start from within the water rather than diving from blocks and are organized according to their estimated swim times. During the swim, athletes may hold onto lane ropes or the pool edge for rest, provided they do not use them to move forward.
The cycling stage takes place on open roads, meaning participants must follow all traffic laws and remain within coned lanes. The transition area is located on the east side of the Aquatic Center near the JT Neely building. For the final leg, there is one water station positioned halfway through the 5k run course.
This event is sanctioned by USA Triathlon (USAT). All participants are required to have either an annual USAT membership or a one-day license. Technical requirements include mandatory helmet use for the bike segment and visible race numbers for the run. While swim caps are optional, personal audio devices such as headphones are prohibited throughout the competition. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
