Tunnel to Towers 5K Run & Walk - Delaware Beaches
The event is a community 5K run and walk held in Lewes, Delaware at 37206 Post Rd. It honors the life and actions of a New York City firefighter who lost his life on September 11, 2001 after running through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel to the Twin Towers, and it supports first responders and military personnel.
The course distance is 5K (approximately 3.1 miles) and is open to runners and walkers. Registration categories and fees listed for the event include: adult $25, first responders and military $20, youth (13 to 17 years) $10, and child (12 and under) $5. Same-day registration is available on the morning of the event, and online registration may remain open until race-day registration closes. T-shirts are limited and may not be available for those who register after packet pickup.
Packet pickup is available the day before the event at the Residence Inn Rehoboth Beach and on race morning near the start and finish. Participants must display their bib on the front of their outermost garment; individuals running without a bib will be asked to leave the course and will not be allowed to finish. Water is available along the route and at the start and finish.
Strollers and wheelchairs are permitted. Firefighter turnout gear and military backpacks are permitted. Personal items should be stored securely at the owner’s risk; the Tunnel to Towers Foundation is not responsible for lost items. Registrations may be transferred to another participant. Refunds are not provided. Donations to support the foundation are accepted for six weeks after the event, and offline donations can be mailed to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation in Staten Island, New York.
Awards emphasize first responder and military participation, including recognition for participants who run in gear similar to that worn by the firefighter commemorated by the series. Volunteers are used on the day of the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
