The Tunnel to Towers 5K Run & Walk in Ankeny, Iowa, is a 5-kilometer walk or run held on September 12, 2026 at 120 NW Ash Drive. The event honors those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001 and supports first responders and military personnel through the Tunnel to Towers Foundation. This edition returns to the Ankeny and Des Moines area for the eighth year.
Multiple registration categories are available with different fees for adults, first responders and military, and children. On-site registration is offered on the morning of the event; late registrants may not receive a participant shirt and sizes are not guaranteed. Packet pickup details will be announced in advance.
The event is an experience rather than a timed race; participants must display their bib on the front of their outermost garment. Awards emphasize participants who run in firefighter turnout gear or military backpacks in recognition of first responder service. Water is provided at a station on the route and at the start and finish area. Emergency medical personnel will be on site.
Strollers and wheelchairs are permitted. Firefighter gear and military backpacks are allowed. Participants are advised to store personal items securely; the organizer is not responsible for losses. Registration fees do not apply toward fundraising totals. Donations and fundraising are accepted, and donations will be accepted for six weeks after the event.
