Event Overview

The Tunnel to Towers 5K Run & Walk - Northern Delaware is an inaugural community event held in Wilmington. This event honors the legacy of Stephen Siller, a New York City firefighter, and commemorates the individuals who lost their lives on September 11, 2001. The gathering serves to recognize first responders and military members while raising funds for the Tunnel to Towers programs.

Course Information

Participants will complete a 5 km (3.1 miles) route. This event is open to individuals of various experience levels, with participants having the option to run or walk the distance. The course is timed, and specific recognition is often focused on participants from the firefighting, police, and military sectors, especially those completing the distance in uniform or service gear.

Participant Details

The event accommodates different categories of participants:

  • First responders and military members
  • Youth (ages 13 to 17)
  • Children (12 and under)

Strollers and wheelchairs are permitted on the course. Participants are also allowed to wear firefighter turnout gear or military backpacks. A water station is provided along the route, with additional water available at the start and finish area. Medical staff from an Emergency Medical Service team will be present on-site.

Logistics

Race packets can be picked up at the start and finish area on the morning of the event. Participants are required to display their bib numbers on the front of their outermost clothing. Runners who anticipate a pace faster than six minutes per mile are positioned in a front corral.
