TUCARD (TUCARD26) : Marsh Island Trail Runners
TUCARD is described as an unusually complex trail event held in Orono, Maine and organized by Marsh Island Trail Runners. The event has a defined start and finish but no fixed course; racers visit announced waypoints in any order. The published start and finish coordinates are 44.89849ºN, 68.68441ºW and 44.89150ºN, 68.68413ºW.
The race supports public access to private lands and benefits the Orono Land Trust. Registered participants receive a zoomable map that updates as course information is released. Waypoint locations are announced to registered racers in the weeks before race day. If a racer registers before August 1 they receive waypoints as they are released and may order a race t-shirt. Registration is always free for Wabanaki Tribal Members.
TUCARD is presented as a trail race with flexibility in how it is approached; the organizers note that there is no single way to complete it, mentioning running, biking, canoeing, or even using a hot air balloon as possible modes. The event uses a rulebook to define the start and finish and other requirements; a late-announced special rule called the "super secret sparkle pony" is intended to alter competitor strategy.
