TSF 5K for Rare Neuroimmune Disorders
The event is a 5K run (3.1 miles) held on 09/13/2026 in Weston, MA at 11 Town House Rd. Registration opens on 06/01/2026 and closes on 08/31/2026. The registration fee is $25.00.
The run is organized by The Sumaira Foundation, a global nonprofit focused on rare neuroimmune disorders. The foundation describes itself as patient-led, patient-powered, science-driven and therapy-agnostic. Its stated activities include raising awareness, building communities of support for patients and caregivers, funding research, and advocating on behalf of patients.
The foundation began after the founder received a diagnosis of neuromyelitis optica, a rare autoimmune disease that affects the central nervous system and can result in vision loss and paralysis. An ambassador for the foundation has emphasized that early detection of NMO improves quality of life.
Since 2018 the foundation has funded one million dollars in research, fellowship support and journal publications through grassroots fundraising. The aim of this 5K is to raise funds to support two additional research projects in 2025 through the foundation’s SPARK and Unicorn grants. The organization reports 102 ambassadors representing 35 countries. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
