True Grit Trail Marathon
The True Grit Trail Marathon is a trail running event held in Bridgend, Wales. The course covers a distance of 26.2 miles and starts and ends at the Bridgend Miniature Railway Centre. This event is organized by Mad Running Junkies and is limited to 60 total participants. Participants must be at least 18 years old to enter.
The route features a mixed terrain with various surface types and elevation changes. The course includes sections through forestry trails and a quarry area known as the Hill of Doom. Runners also traverse the Bedford Park area, passing the historical Bedford ironworks, which is an ancient monument surrounded by the Celtic Trail track. The final stages of the route include a section through slag heaps with mud and water, a climb named Mount Mayhem, and a flat final mile leading to the finish line.
The event provides full logistical support for participants. The course is marked throughout, and a GPX file is available for navigation. There are five major checkpoints and feed stations positioned along the route, offering water and snacks. On-site facilities include car parking, toilets, and a medical team. Participants who complete the distance receive a bespoke medal, and registration options include the choice of adding an event t-shirt.
