Trooper Thompsen Memorial 5K
The Trooper Thompsen Memorial 5K is a community running event held at Woodard Family Park in Saint Joseph, Illinois. The event honors the memory of Corey S. Thompsen, an Illinois State Trooper and competitive runner. The race route passes through residential areas, runs alongside a pond, and crosses over the I-74 highway.
Participants can choose from several event options:
- 5K
- Kids Fun Run
- Virtual 5K
The 5K race includes chip timing provided by Second Wind Race Timing. Registrants receive a finisher medal and a race shirt if registered by the specified deadline in May. Awards are presented to the overall male and female winners, the top male and female first responders, and the top three finishers in various age categories from 14 and under to 60 and over.
The Kids Fun Run consists of a marked, one-lap course of approximately half a mile. Each participant in this category receives a finisher medal upon completion.
Beyond the races, the event features several community activities at the park, including a touch-a-truck display, face painting, food trucks, a 50/50 drawing, and raffles. Proceeds from the event are directed to a memorial fund that supports local charitable projects and scholarships. Packet pick-up is available at the Woodard Family Park Pavilion on the Friday before the race and on the day of the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
