Kennekuk Road Runners - Mountain Goat
The Kennekuk Road Runners - Mountain Goat is the 39th edition of a race established in 1987. It takes place at Kickapoo State Recreation Area in Oakwood, Illinois.
The event offers three distance options on a single course, which is a 5 km loop. The surface is 90% asphalt and 10% surfaced handicapped trail. The course involves an out-and-back format on a hill.
- 5K: One loop of the 5 km course.
- 10K: Two loops of the 5 km course.
- 15K: Three loops of the 5 km course.
Participants can earn raffle tickets based on the distance they complete. Every 5K finisher receives 1 ticket, every 10K finisher receives 2 tickets, and every 15K finisher receives 3 tickets. The first male and female finisher in each distance receive an additional ticket.
This event is part of a four-race Grand Slam series for 2026. An award will be presented to everyone who finishes all four Kennekuk events: the Siberian Express, Mountain Goat, Lake Mingo Trail Run, and Wild Wild Wilderness.
The race is followed by a party at Exit 210 Saloon. Gabe Difanis provides free race photos. Online registration is available until March 19, 2026. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
