The event is a trail running race held at Trapp Family Lodge on the Trapp Lodge trail system in Stowe, Vermont. It takes place in October and the route passes through fall foliage near the Green Mountains. Local Oktoberfest activity is noted in town during the month.
The course is a 13.1 mile loop that combines wider double-track trails and dirt roads with serpentine, rugged single track. About two thirds of the loop is double track and dirt road, and about one third is single track. The route includes steep climbs and descents, sections that require steep scrambling, and a recently updated climb to the highest point on the property, Round Top Mountain. The full marathon covers the loop twice, resulting in substantial cumulative elevation gain and loss.
