About the race
The Festival of Lights 5K is a nighttime 5 kilometer event on December 11, 2026, in Morrisville, VT. The course follows the Lamoille Valley Rail Trail in an out-and-back route of 3.11 miles, beginning in downtown Morrisville at the top of Portland Street and finishing at Oxbow Riverfront Park. The trail is decorated with lights and luminaries.
This event is organized by Big Cat Running in partnership with the Morrisville Alliance for Culture and Commerce and the Town of Morristown. Fifteen percent of proceeds are allocated to the Morrisville Alliance for Culture and Commerce.
Participants should expect Vermont winter conditions in December; the trail surface is typically packed snow and traction devices are recommended. Headlamps are required and glowsticks or other personal lighting are encouraged. Strollers, walkers, and leashed dogs are welcome on the course.
Race logistics include bib pickup options before race day at Morilla Gym on December 10 and at The Wing Center on race day. Parking is available in downtown lots and at the high school; there is no parking at Oxbow Park. The event is held rain, snow, or shine.
A finish area at Oxbow Riverfront Park offers s'mores, hot cocoa, music, and awards. Awards go to the top three male and top three female finishers and to multiple age group categories. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
