Joe Harney Memorial PTC Scholarship Trailzilla Series
The Trailzilla Series is a collection of three trail running events held during the summer months at Sandy Bottom Nature Park in Hampton. The series takes place on dirt paths within the park and features three distinct distances that increase throughout the competition schedule. The Peninsula Track Club organizes these races to benefit their scholarship funds.
Participants can choose to register for individual races or the entire series. The event distances include:
- 5 km (Fast 5K)
- 4 Miles (Feel Good 4-Miler)
- 5 Miles (Joe-Zilla 5-Miler)
The courses are located at 1255 Big Bethel Road, with activities centered around the Lakeside Pavilion. The series includes a competitive walking category. Individuals entering as walkers must walk the entire course without jogging or running to remain in that classification.
Awards are provided for each individual race and for the overall series. Recognition is given to the top three overall male and female finishers, the top three male and female walkers, and winners across five-year age groups ranging from 14 and under to 75 and older. To qualify for series awards, participants must complete all three events. A race singlet is provided to those who register for the 5-mile event or the full series by specific deadlines.
