Event Format
The Trails & Tarmac Backyard Ultra is a timed event with a 12-hour cap. The format consists of a 4.2-mile loop that must be completed within each hour. The first eleven loops follow the standard Backyard Ultra format. The 12th and final loop is a sprint race to determine the overall winner.
Course & Location
The event is set just outside Crickhowell in the Black Mountains. The loop is a mix of trail and tarmac, described as 50% each. The terrain is relatively flat with one gradual climb and one short steep section.
Rules & Logistics
Participants must be in the starting corral at the bell for each loop. All loops start precisely one hour apart. Except for restroom use, competitors may not leave the course until a loop is finished. No personal aid is allowed on the course; a common aid station will be at the headquarters. The event provides hot and cold food and drink. Showers, toilets, and on-site medics are available. Parking at the headquarters costs £5.
Awards & Recognition
A trophy is awarded to the winner of the final sprint lap. Every participant who completes a loop receives a medal. A special medal is awarded to anyone who reaches 32 miles (ultra distance). The event is open to participants aged 17 or older. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
