Event Format
The Trails & Tarmac Summer Back Yard Ultra is a timed event on a fixed loop. The standard format consists of runners completing a 4.2-mile loop, or "yard," each hour. The event has a 12-hour cap.
For the first 11 hours, each yard must be finished within the hour to continue. The 12th and final yard is a race in the reverse direction.
Course and Location
The event takes place near Crickhowell, in the Black Mountains. The loop course is described as 50% trail and 50% tarmac, with one gradual climb and a short steep section. The rest of the terrain is noted as relatively flat.
Prizes and Recognition
A trophy is awarded to the first-place male and female runner, who is the last person standing. Medals are given to participants who reach 32 miles. The event includes a photographer during the day, with photos free to download after the event.
Facilities
On-site facilities include medics, showers, and toilets. Basic camping is available in a field with toilets within walking distance of the event headquarters. Food and water are provided to runners, with hot food available after the fifth yard. There is also mention of a post-race sauna and ice bath offered by a local provider.
