Event overview
Trails & Tarmac Summer Backyard Ultra is organised by Limitless Trails and takes place near Crickhowell in the Black Mountains, Powys. The event follows a backyard ultra format on a mixed trail and tarmac route. The event is capped at 12 hours.
Format and course
The course is a loop of approximately 4.2 miles. Competitors must complete each loop within one hour. The event comprises up to twelve loops, with the twelfth loop run as a race; the overall winner is decided on that final loop and a winner's trophy is awarded. Medals are awarded to participants who complete individual loops and a special medal is given to anyone who reaches 32 miles (ultra distance). The route is described as roughly 50/50 trail and tarmac, with one gradual climb, a short steep section, and mostly relatively flat terrain.
Rules and facilities
Common aid stations are provided and one will be at HQ; personal aid during a loop is not allowed. Artificial aids such as trekking poles and headphones are not permitted. Supporter access to the starting corral is restricted and phone contact with runners on course is limited to emergencies. Medical cover, showers and toilets are available. Parking at HQ carries a fee which enters the parker into a separate free event. Entry information lists a minimum age of 17 and an entry fee of £75.
