Event Overview
The Trails & Rails event takes place in Cloudcroft, New Mexico, starting at the Trestle Recreation Area. It features three race distances: an 8 Miler, a 3 Miler, and a 1 Mile Kid's Dash. The courses use historic railroad beds, old highway segments, and forested singletrack trails within the Sacramento Mountains.
The start elevation is approximately 8,676 feet, offering views of the Tularosa Basin. The 8-mile course has about 1,350 feet of elevation gain and loss. The 3-mile course has 576 feet of elevation change. Both routes provide scenic overlooks.

The event is cup-less, meaning runners must carry their own hydration. The 8-mile course has two water stations. There is a cut-off time of 12:00 PM for the 8-mile and 3-mile courses. Custom shirts are available, and finishers receive medals. Age-group awards are given for top three finishers in categories from under 10 to 70+.
