Trails & Rails : Cloudcroft, New Mexico
Trails & Rails is a mountain trail event based at the Trestle Recreation Area at the junction of Hwy 82 and 130 next to the replica depot in Cloudcroft, New Mexico. The venue sits at about 8,676 feet and offers descending views toward the Tularosa Basin roughly 4,000 feet below.
The route combines wide historic railroad grade, segments of an old 1930s highway, and sections of forested singletrack through fir and spruce. The 8 mile course includes approximately 1,350 feet of elevation gain and loss, while the 3 mile course has about 576 feet of elevation change. Both routes provide overlooks of the basin and a sense of local railroad history.

Support and logistics include two water stations on the 8 mile course and a cup less 3 mile course where participants must carry their own hydration. Pre race pastries and post race snacks are provided at the finish. Top three awards are given in multiple age groups and finishers receive custom shirts and unique medals; shirts are guaranteed only with early registration. Registration is non refundable.
The event is the first race in the Sacramento Mountains Ultra Series. Beerfest occurs nearby at Zenith Park on June 13 and 14, about one mile from the race site. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
