Sacramento Mountains Ultra Series : Trails & Rails in Cloudcroft, NM
The Sacramento Mountains Ultra Series is a three-race mountain trail series based in Cloudcroft, New Mexico, set among fir and spruce above the Tularosa Basin. The series includes short and long series options and is limited to 50 runners.
Trails & Rails is an 8 mile forest outing that starts at the Trestle Recreation Area in Cloudcroft. The route follows historic railroad beds, an old highway grade, and single-track through forest, with past editions listing about 1,350 ft of elevation gain and loss for the 8 mile course. The terrain moves through pine, fir, and aspen stands and offers views down to the basin below.
Series formats and awards are held across three events. The Skyline Series (long) and the Ridgeline Series (short) combine the same three race days into different distance options. The top overall male and female finishers of the Skyline Series will be named King and Queen of the Sacramento Mountains. A shuttle is included with Sacramento Mountains Endurance Series registration.
