Trails & Rails - Cloudcroft, NM
Trails & Rails is a mountain trail event centered at the Trestle Recreation Area in Cloudcroft, New Mexico, within the Sacramento Mountains. The course runs on historic railroad grades, sections of an old highway, and forest singletrack, with overlooks of the Tularosa Basin roughly 4,000 feet below. The village sits at about 8,676 feet elevation.
Distances offered:
- 1 Mile Kid's Dash (ages 10 and under, strollers allowed)
- 3 Miler
- 8 Miler
The 8-mile route lists about 1,350 feet of elevation gain and loss and includes two water stations. The 3-mile route has about 576 feet of elevation change and is cup-less; participants must carry their own hydration. Both courses begin and end at the Trestle Recreation Area near the replica depot and include a short paved loop shared between the 3-mile and 8-mile routes to reduce congestion.
Cutoff for the 3- and 8-mile courses is 12:00 pm. The event provides pre-race pastries, post-race snacks, custom shirts, and unique finisher medals; early registration is recommended to guarantee shirt sizes. Registration is non-refundable. Age-group awards are given to the top three in multiple age categories. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
