Heart of the Desert Wine Run 5K
The Heart of the Desert Wine Run is a chip timed 5k run and walk held at Heart of the Desert Pistachios & Wines in Alamogordo, NM. The course starts and finishes at the winery and follows mostly dirt roads across the winery and pistachio farm. The route is organized as two loops; participants may stop after one loop at the finish wine line.
Registration includes a super soft ring spun cotton T shirt, a shatterproof collapsible wine glass, a finisher medal, a chip timed race bib, results posted online, and a pour of wine for those eligible. Minors may participate with a discounted registration that includes a shirt, medal and bib but will not receive a wine glass or a pour of wine. Packet pickup is race day only and opens one hour before the event.
The event offers age group awards for the top three finishers in ten year categories, with categories from 19 and under through 80 and over. Age group awards must be claimed on event day at the registration table; winners are identified from posted results. Competitive runners must start with the first group or wave to be eligible for age group awards.
Walking is allowed. Strollers are permitted but not recommended because of uneven ground. Dogs are not allowed on site due to USDA rules for produce and vegetable farms. The local charity partner is Thrive in Southern New Mexico, whose mission is to advance the common good and improve lives through community collaboration.
