Event overview
The Heart of the Desert Wine Run is a chip-timed 5k held on February 7, 2026 in Alamogordo, NM at Heart of the Desert Pistachios & Wines (7288 Hwy 54/70). The event is open to ages 1 to 99 and is timed and scored by J3 Timing, with results posted online. A virtual participation option is available; packets can be shipped for a stated shipping and handling fee.
Course, registration and awards
The course starts and finishes at the winery and follows mostly dirt roads through the winery and pistachio farm. The route is a two-loop layout, with the option to stop at the finish after one loop.
Registration includes a super soft ring spun cotton T-shirt, a shatterproof collapsible wine glass, a finisher medal that doubles as a bottle stopper, and a chip-timed race bib. Registered participants receive a wine pour at the finish; minors receive a discounted registration that includes the shirt, medal and bib but not a wine pour or wine glass. Packet pickup is race day only.
The event partners with Thrive in Southern New Mexico as the local charity. Age group awards are offered for top finishers in male and female categories, with awards available for pickup on the day of the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
