Heart of the Desert Wine Run 5k
The Heart of the Desert Wine Run 5k takes place on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at Heart of the Desert Pistachios & Wines in Alamogordo, New Mexico (7288 Hwy 54/70). The event is a chip-timed 5k run/walk. The winery has 24,000 vines and grows several grape varieties, including Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, Shiraz, Riesling, Malvasia Bianca and Gewurztraminer.
Course, entries and race services
The course starts and finishes at the winery and follows mostly dirt roads through the winery and pistachio farm. It is a two-loop route; participants may stop after one loop and return to the winery. Results are posted online and timing is provided by J3 Timing.
Registration includes a ring-spun cotton t-shirt, a shatterproof collapsible wine glass, a finisher medal that doubles as a bottle stopper, a chip-timed race bib and a pour of wine. Minors may register at a discounted rate but do not receive the wine glass or wine pour. Packet pickup is race day only. A virtual participation option is available; packets can be shipped for a $10 shipping and handling fee. Top three finishers in each age group receive awards; age-group winners must start with the first group to be eligible. Walking is allowed, strollers are permitted but not recommended due to uneven ground, and dogs are not allowed on site. The local charity partner is Thrive in Southern New Mexico.
