Event Overview
The Trail Run at Sly Park - Summer takes place within the Sly Park Recreation Area in Pollock Pines, California. The event is held under a special use permit with the El Dorado National Forest and is limited to a field of 100 runners per day. Participants run through forests of pine trees on a course that primarily consists of single-track trails and wide horse trails surrounding Jenkinson Lake.
Course Information
The terrain features a mix of gently rolling hills and flat sections, with some technical areas containing rocks and roots. Most races begin with a short downhill on a gravel road followed by a steep climb on a single-track trail. After this initial section, the routes level out as they follow the shoreline in a counterclockwise direction. Available distances include:
- 5K
- 10K
- 8 Mile
- Half Marathon
- 17 Mile
- Trail Marathon
- 50K
Logistics
The primary start location for all distances is the Scales Parking Lot, also known as the Equestrian Parking Area. While the 5K finishes at the start line, all other distances conclude at the Waterfall Trailhead. Runners finishing at the waterfall will need to walk approximately 0.5 miles to return to the main parking area. There is a required day-use parking fee, and carpooling is encouraged due to limited space.
Two aid stations are positioned at opposite ends of the lake: one at the finish area and another at Hazel Creek. Distances longer than a 10K reach these stations multiple times. The event has an overall cutoff time of 9 hours. All finishers receive a medal upon completion. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
