Harvest & Howitzer Backyard Ultra
The Harvest & Howitzer Backyard Ultra is scheduled for April 30–May 2, 2027. It is the inaugural running of a last runner standing event held on a private 100 acre Christmas tree and apple farm in the Sierra foothills.
Runners complete one 4.167 mile loop every hour, on the hour, until only one runner remains. There is no traditional finish line; the event continues loop by loop until a single runner finishes the final required loop.
The event is organized as a weekend campout with space for crews, families, and camping between loops. The site includes campfires and areas for crew support. A kids race is included. Proceeds from the event support local nonprofits.
The event uses a historical howitzer as a central metaphor. Participants are described as carrying their own howitzer of power and pride, and the format highlights strategy and judgement about when to stop as much as endurance and speed. Organizers emphasize community, hospitality, and a low production, land focused atmosphere rather than a medal and quick exit experience.
