Trail Rail Run, St. Regis, MT
Scheduled for June 20, 2026 in St. Regis, Montana, the Trail Rail Run is a point-to-point trail event that follows abandoned Northern Pacific and Milwaukee Railroad grades from Mullan, Idaho to St. Regis. The route crosses two historic train trestles, passes through a tunnel, and parallels the St. Regis River before finishing at St. Regis Community Park where there is music, food, and beer.

Course details include approximately 1,500 feet of total elevation gain and a surface that is about 95% unpaved, composed of railroad ballast, dirt, and gravel. The 50-mile route reaches Lookout Pass at about 4,700 feet and starts near 3,278 feet in Mullan, finishing at about 2,635 feet in St. Regis. There are 10 aid stations along the course and a 14 hour cutoff for the 50-mile event.
All participants receive a T shirt. Individual 50-mile finishers who are registered by April 1 are eligible for a finisher's jacket; registrations after that date are not guaranteed a jacket. Proceeds support trail improvements, the local community, and an annual scholarship. The event is presented with local partners and is sanctioned by USA Track & Field.
