About the race
Trail Outlaws stages the Durham Trail 5K as part of the Urban Trail Series. The event is based at The Graham Sports Centre, University of Durham (DH1 3SE), and uses trails in Durham City and the surrounding area. The course departs from the city, follows the River Wear Dale Way, passes through the local woods at Shincliffe, and returns to the city via trails that lead to a final climb up Whinney Hill with an elevated view of Durham Cathedral. The organiser provides course marking and marshals at key points; navigation remains the competitor’s responsibility. There are two checkpoints on course where water and sweets are available; water is also provided at the finish.
Mandatory kit requires shoes suitable for the ground conditions. Medical cover is provided at the start and finish area, including a paramedic and ambulance. The race uses electronic timing by TOTS and publishes instant online results.
All finishers receive a bespoke medal and race memento; digital photography and free event parking are included, with a race t-shirt available to purchase. The event enforces a strict two hour cut off and a set of race rules that include logging bib numbers at checkpoints, no dogs, restrictions on earphone use at specified points, and penalties for littering or unsporting behaviour. Age-category prizes are allocated for male and female finishers. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
