Overview
Trail Camp for Big Kids is a multi-day trail camping event held in the Robbinsville area at Rattler Ford Group Campground in the Nantahala National Forest. The camp focuses on team building, navigation, community service, friendship and running. It welcomes adults, including runners and non-runners, and offers planned group runs with options to run more or less. Parking is limited; organizers note cars can be parked about 10-12 miles away at the Nantahala headquarters and carpooling is recommended.

- 10k Deep Gap Trail - Price $75. Open to ages 18+.
- Half marathon Mount Mitchell Trail - Price $75. Open to ages 18+.
- 27 miles Death Before DNF Marathon - 17,000 ft elevation. Price $75. Open to ages 18+.
Program and logistics
The schedule is loose across the long weekend with planned activities on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Friday includes a group shakeout run on the Joyce Kilmer Lower Loop Trail. Saturday is the longest day on the trails with route options such as Stratton Bald Loop, Haoe Lead, Wauchecha Bald and Cheoah Bald via the Appalachian Trail; Cheoah Bald requires a 30 minute drive to the trailhead. Breakfast is provided on some days; campers are generally responsible for lunch and most dinners. Those with dietary restrictions are asked to bring adequate food.
Facilities and packing
The site has bathrooms, showers and running water. RVs are not permitted; campers should bring a tent, car or hammock. Recommended items include bug spray, sunscreen, hydration pack, running nutrition, sleeping gear and personal dinnerware. Campers are asked to bring one stack of firewood.
