Toxic Trail 37
Toxic Trail 37 is a point to point road race in Canal Point, Florida, held in late June. The event follows a roughly 37 mile route from Port Mayaca to Stuart Beach and includes relay options.
- 37 Miler
- 2 Person Relay
- 4 Person Relay
- 6 Person Relay
The race aims to bring attention to discharge from Lake Okeechobee through the C-44 canal into the St. Lucie River and the impacts on surrounding communities and waterways. Organizers describe a vision of people along the road with signs and banners to raise awareness.
Course and logistics are described as follows: the first 20 miles run against traffic in a country setting; miles 23 to 33 pass through Stuart and are more urban; the final 3 to 4 miles finish on the beach with Atlantic Ocean views and a double bridge finish. A group photo in the ocean is a tradition. Aid stations are planned approximately every 5 to 7 miles; exact locations will be provided before the race.
Solo runners are encouraged to use a crew. Uncrewed runners will be asked about qualifications and a shuttle to the start is available for some solo runners. Relay teams may include up to six runners with changes every two miles or more. Crew vehicles must move fully off the road with hazards on when parked. Police presence is noted on the highway. Registration closes Fri, Jun 26 at 11:59PM ET. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
