Death at DuPuis (A Backyard Event)

Death at DuPuis is a not-for-profit backyard-style endurance event held in Canal Point, FL, presented as an Athletic Soul Foundation event. The course uses trails in the DuPuis Management Area and honors the format of Big's Backyard in Tennessee.

All participants run a 4.166667 mile loop that restarts at the top of each hour. The event continues hourly until only one runner completes the loop on time or all participants stop. Organizers provide a warning whistle at three, two and one minute before each hour and set up coolers, chairs and canopies at the start/finish area on a first come, first served basis.

The event includes a Bronze Ticket that grants entry into Capital in Virginia and carries a $1000 stipend awarded to the winner. The organizer states there are no refunds for entrants who drop; fees from dropouts will be added to the donation pot for the Loxahatchee chapter of the FTA. Assistance for financial hardship may be requested from the organizer.

DuPuis Management Area is described as a large multiuse natural area with ponds, wet prairies, cypress domes, pine flatwoods and remnant Everglades marsh. Facilities and features mentioned include hiking and horseback trails, a nature center, a boardwalk, campsites and miles of trails suitable for exploration.

Race costs cover shirts, portable toilets, awards, timing and a minimum donation goal of $2000 to the Loxahatchee chapter of the FTA; past contributions have exceeded $10,000. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
