Death at DuPuis (A Backyard Event)

Death at DuPuis is a last person standing race held in the DuPuis Management Area near Canal Point, FL, organized by Mule Racing as a not for profit event and presented as a homage to Big's Backyard in Tennessee. The event uses a fixed loop of 4.166667 miles that each runner repeats. The race restarts at the top of each hour and continues until only one runner completes the loop on time or all participants stop.

Participants receive whistle warnings at 3, 2 and 1 minute before each hour. Support at the start/finish includes coolers, chairs and canopies provided on a first come, first served basis. The winner receives a bronze ticket toward further events and the organizer awards a $1,000 stipend to the winner.

There are no refunds for runners who drop; entry fees from dropouts are placed into the donation pot for the Loxahatchee chapter of the Florida Trail Association. The event aims for a minimum $2,000 donation to the Loxahatchee FTA and reports having contributed more than $10,000 to the organization in the past.

DuPuis Management Area covers 21,875 acres of ponds, wet prairies, cypress domes, pine flatwoods and remnant Everglades marsh. The property includes a nature center, boardwalks, a butterfly garden, fishing pier, 22 miles of hiking trails including a segment of the Ocean to Lake Trail, and equestrian access to 40 miles of riding trails.
