Death at DuPuis (A Backyard Event)
Death at DuPuis is a last person standing backyard-style endurance event held at the DuPuis Management Area near Canal Point, Florida on February 6, 2027. Runners complete repeated laps of a 4.166667 mile loop. The course runs through the Dupuis Management Area, which features ponds, wet prairies, cypress domes, pine flatwoods and remnant Everglades marsh, plus trails, a nature center and a butterfly garden.
The format requires runners to start a loop at the top of each hour; the race restarts hourly until only one runner completes the loop on time or all participants quit. A warning whistle is sounded at 3, 2 and 1 minute before the hour. Amenities at the start/finish area include coolers, chairs and canopies offered on a first come, first served basis.
The event is organized as a not for profit fundraiser. The organizer will have Florida Trail Association (FTA) membership pamphlets available and will collect donations for the Loxahatchee chapter. Race costs include shirts, porta potties, timing and awards, with a minimum donation goal of $2,000 to the Loxahatchee FTA; past events have returned over $10,000 to the organization. There are no refunds for participants who drop; drop fees are added to the donation pot. The event also awards a bronze ticket that provides entry into Capital in Virginia and a $1,000 stipend to the winner. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
